You've forgot to mention that any monies raised over a certain amount, I think its 7k, goes to the government. So there's no benefit to the uni to charge the extra fees.

but fees at the moment are only about 3.5k so the uni's can double the fees before the gov sees anything.

£3.5k? Really? I assume you mean per year?

Or the rest of the debits are accrued in the pub?

Not all of it:

Quote:

The university would get to keep a diminishing proportion of fees over £6,000 - 40% of the first £1,000, 45% of the second, 50% of the third etc

It's not that I don't believe you but do you have a link?

Because
The education minister was on the beeb yesterday and didn't describe it anything like that.

Its a far cry from running about in shopping trolleys with traffic cones on your heads & drinking vodka out of pot noodle cups while listening to the levelers.

I hate it when people assume that this is all students do. We work hard, harder than anyone else in our age group.

not all students do mate - but not all doss either.

There is too much stereotyping where people who work class all students as lazy and students say they work harder than the 9 - 5 brigade.

There are lazy people in uni/college as there are in work and there are hard working dedicated people in both too...people say that by virtue of the fact someone gets to uni then they are a hard worker but that isnt the case, some are just gifted buit unfortunatley dont put the time in to use that gift to its maximum

i don't know the total debt a student will raise during a year because that depends on their own circumstances.

the tuition fees alone are around 3.5k. i'm currently doing my PGCE and thats what i'm paying if i remember correctly, or somewhere around that mark.

A reasonable approximation of debt accrued is in the region of £7.5k p/y. So I'm looking at a debt somewhere round about 30k by the time I leave.

i have around 25k from my under-grad degree and will then add on the loan i've taken to pay my tuition fess this time.

luckily on the PGCE you get a 4k bursary so i won't need a loan to cover living expenses.

will be looking at close to 30k by the timw i graduate.
